On Tuesday 15th March, the Infant Eco Committee held an assembly to share the next ‘Eco-targets’ with the rest of the school. They recapped the targets from last half-term; saving energy, recycling and walking to school, and then they introduced this term’s targets; saving water and preventing litter.
The children made posters at home to promote these topics and they will soon be displayed around the school for all to see.
We also watched a video clip which is based upon a letter from Pope Francis in which he asks every person on the planet to protect the earth.
Will you play your part to protect our common home?

Although our ‘Eco Schools’ section is new to the school’s website, we have been doing ‘Eco’ related work for a long time and working hard to make our school an Eco friendly environment (as this is not something that happens over night!).
Last year, a child in class 5 brought in a ‘Don’t Waste’ poster and as a result of this, the infant school council reps decided to do their own leaky tap survey with the support of Mrs Barlow. They found that most taps in school are Eco friendly and do not leak. However, one tap in the kitchen did have a slight leak but this was immediately reported to Mr Richard, our premises officer and to Mrs Ronan.
This year’s school council/eco committee members decided to do a follow up survey to see if there were any new leaky taps we did not know about and whether the kitchen tap had been fixed from last year. We are very pleased to report that ALL taps in school are ‘leak-free’ and the kitchen tap has been fixed! We are promoting an eco-friendly environment. Good job everyone!
How can we help save the world? reduce, reuse, recycle. This half term we were fortunate to have the ‘Perform for Schools’ team in school to do a work shop about superheroes saving the world. Each performance was very well catered to each age phase and taught us how important it is to reduce, reuse and recycle!
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
Three great ways YOU can eliminate waste and protect your environment! Waste, and how we choose to handle it, affects our world’s environment—that’s YOUR environment. The environment is everything around you including the air, water, land, plants, and man-made things.
Our next steps of action –
Children in the eco committee made posters to put up around the school to help encourage everybody to save energy and thus save the world!!!
We are proud to introduce our Eco-School Committee. We have a Junior Committee and an Infant Committee. We are currently working towards achieving a Bronze Award for Eco-Schools but hopefully we will soon achieve the ultimate Green Award.
